Power outage in Alliston’s downtown core leaves residents in the dark

A power outage left more than 2,000 Alliston residents in the dark on Monday evening.

The outage began around 4 p.m. in Alliston’s downtown core.

Nottawasaga OPP said the disruption was caused by a main feeder wire that burned down across Highway 89 at Concession Road 7, leaving the community without functioning streetlights.

Hydro crews were dispatched to resolve the issue, which was fixed around 6 p.m.

Alectra Utilities confirmed the outage affected approximately 2,803 customers due to a loss of supply from Hydro One.

“Crews arrived on-site and worked to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” the utility company said in a statement.
